Newbie question

I have a MX900 that was fully programmed by the folks that I bought it from. For my Sat, I was using DISH but just recently I changed to DirectTV and have now have the HR23-700 HDDRV. I downloaded the latest software for the MX900 and the newest version of DirectTV codes from the IR database I see is the HR20 or the HR20[ID2].

Will one of these two work?

Thanks
Frank

The HR codeset works on all the HR boxes (20, 21, 23). Use the regular HR20 codeset (173).

Oops ... helps if the receiver is set for IR instead of RF .. Corrected it and now it seems to work properly. All I need to do now is map the keys the way I want them.

(operator error :-)
I have 2 HDDVR's and discovered that they are different models. The first on is the HR23-700 and using the codes for the HR20 work just fine. However, the second model is a HR22-100 and the codes for the HR20 do not work at all and this is the one I need to control as opposed to the HR23.

The HR22 should be the same codeset. Did the installer change the HR22 to ID2? Look in System Setup > Remote > Receiver Mode. Try the HR20 [ID2]. You can also try the [DIRECTV #] codes at the end of the list to see if you get a hit.

Also, If you have an RF kit your IR routing may not be set properly or the emitter is not positioned correctly.

All is well. the problem was that the DVR was setup for RF mode instead of IR mode. Once I changed that, the codes for HR20 work just fine.

Seems like everyone here is converting the RF signal to an IR signal first, which I know is simple. I was hoping just to have the MX900 send an RF signal instead of IR and for the DirectV receiver to respond. Is that possible, I cant seem to get it to work. I am doing it because I have had trouble with the IR signal and DTV receivers before. Thanks.

DirecTV RF is proprietary and can't be learned by any existing universal remote. (This isn't unique to DirecTV: the technical hurdles of learning RF are vast.) That's the very reason DirecTV includes IR: to allow universal remotes to control their units. You can use a URC RF base station with your remote to get the no-pointing, through-walls operation you're looking for.

In this day and age, I don't really think adding support for DirecTv RF would be a significant hurdle, the problem would be ... so what? What about the rest of the system?

One of these centuries A/V manufacturers actually standardize on a hardwired command bus, a single RF technology (whether Zigbee, Bluetooth, or something else), and a common command set. Nirvana will be obtained.

Perhaps by 3009.
