A Local installer (tweeter) installed a new MX3000 along with a Y-2700 and Hi Def TV for me last week and he was not aware of power on/off codes capability for the xbox360. Are there power codes for the XBOX? I also have the xbox HD-DVD and he was able to get the commands working for the hdDVD.

Aslo, have a PS3, in same rack unit. Installer is not aware of codes for PS3. He said that since they are using Bluetooth and not IR commands he can't "learn" them into the MX3000. So we are having to use the PS3 controller to command PS3 game play and BlueRay play. Any codes out yet for the PS3?

Sorry to hear you've had a few problems with the installation of your system.

First things first; the xbox360 power can be controlled via IR from your MX remote with power ON to the dashboard being accomplished by using the xbox command twice with a .5 second delay between each other. Power OFF is accomplished by issuing the xbox button twice in a row without delay followed by a 2 second delay followed by xbox power twice in a row without delay. Have your installer integrate these commands into the macros w/o having other commands breaking the sequences above and the xbox360 is good to go. The commands I have listed and referenced are available in the URC database microsoft codeset 408. If he/she has any further concerns while at your home they may reach me (Chris) via the concierge at our store in Las Vegas.

As for the PS3, you are not able to control this via IR from the mx remote as of yet as it only accepts bluetooth at this time. There is no way for the mx remote or any other remote to my knowledge, to learn and transmit bluetooth commands. Unfortunately this is out of our control and we cannot assume responsibility for full integration/control of 3rd party products which are not able to receive IR commands. Hopefully there will be a usb adaptor that will enable IR control to exist with the PS3; until that time, your installer, by giving you a/v switching to the PS3 via the mx remote has done all that they can do.

In addition to the work arounds that Chris has explained above, there is also a toggle power command for the Xbox. That command is in the URC database as well.

So, any preference between the Xbox HD DVD and PS3 BlueRay?

The URC database does not currently have discrete power commands for the Xbox 360, but we have identified the necessary codes and will be including them in a future update of the database.

Discrete power codes for the Xbox 360? That's great news.

Breeze,

I found this on another forum regarding the PS3 DVD Remote Function:

=========================================================

As we all know, PS3 uses Bluetooth for remote communication and there is no IR receiver. The upcoming remote will also be Bluetooth, so there does not appear to be an IR learn option here. Until someone makes an IR remote for this (with an IR USB receiver), there is a short term solution. This is for BLURAY DVD playing only.

1. Purchase a PS2 to USB adabter from radioshack (part # 26-729) $11.00. This dongle was originally designed to connect PS controllers to a PC.

2. Purchase a SONY original PS2 DVD remote (model schp-10150)

3. Plug the remotes IR receiver into the radioshack adapter and then plug the USB end of the adapter into any PS3 USB port.

4. If the PS3 is not line of sight, connect an IR blaster to the IR receiver (as you would a normal IR eye on any equipment).

5. Learn the IR codes direct from the PS2 remote for use in custom remote programming. Program custom remote accordingly.

That’s it. Now, this predominantly works when in the BluRay mode. This means that a client still needs to navigate to the blue ray disc and select it with the PS3 controller. However, once the disc is playing, they can have full control from their programmed remote. I said it was primarily for DVD playing, however, the 4 major PS2 buttons (Triangle / Circle / Square / X) do work at all times. Unfortunately, navigation with the 4 way pad outside of the DVD area does not work.

Tested so far:

Triangle / Circle / Square / X = All work @ all times.
L1 / L2 / R1 / R2 = Work in DVD mode only.
Select / Start = Work in DVD mode only
4 way pad = Work in DVD mode only
Enter button in middle of 4 way pad = Does not work at all
All remaining buttons (Approximately 32) = Does not work at all

*DVD mode is when the DVD is in, and the client has already selected it with the PS3 controller.

As you can buy the adapter for $11 at radioshack and a used Ps2 remote for $4.99 at GameStop, the investment is minor. While the functionality is limited, customers will appreciate not having to hold a controller and a remote while watching a movie. The reality is, suggesting a BR player is a better solution. However, the PS3 is somewhat doable, so its worthy of a post (and customers will ask for this !).
