I just got my MX-980 and I installed the battery and then left for a trip. When I got back 4 days later the remote was completely out of a charge and it was full before I left. I am hoping this is just a battery issue and not a remote issue, but I am not sure. My only thought is that if the battery made it all the way from the factory then to the retailer and then to me with full power it must be able to hold a charge. Has anyone else had battery issues with the MX-980? How long before you have to recharge it after use?

(once I got home from the trip, I fully recharged it and left it for a few days the same thing happened)

(also my MX-810 can go for weeks before I recharge with a decent amount of use, typically every other days and heavy use on the weekends)

No, a guy in my office had the same issue and I have a customer with a 950 of which the battery died in less than 6 months.
You have reached my voicemail. I will be out of the office until you stop calling.

Mine has to sit in the dock just the right way (to get the right hand LED to change to red from blue indicating a charge status.) If it doesn't sit in there just perfectly, I guess it is not charging and it is very difficult to make it sit right sometimes and it pops out.

This is frustrating.
Am I doing it wrong? Anyone else have this issue? Other than that, I love the remote.

Freddy:

I'm a little confused as to how the remote could be popping out of the charger base. I've got two of them here on my desk and, while they don't "lock in" or anything, both of them sit securely in the base.

I'm not TOO terribly surprised to have the remote lose charge after four days off the charger, particularly if there are any timers programmed. The reason it comes with a charger is that we expected it to be charged every night.

The MX-810 uses a much, much slower processor, has a smaller screen, and far less memory. Some of the gripes we get about that product are specifically because we made changes to make it last longer on a battery (and thus, it doesn't come with a charger base). Imagine a Toyota Camry verses a Hummer H2. The Camry is the MX-810... the Hummer is the MX-980. Even though both cars get you to the same places, the Hummer uses way, way more gas because it's a LOT more powerful. that's sort of what's going on here. And incidentally, they have the same gas tank (battery). You can literally take the battery out of the MX-810 and put it right in the MX-980.

So... I don't think anything is wrong in regard to the off-charger life. But I AM confuses as to why some of you are experiencing difficulty docking. I guess I'd have to see the charger base to know for sure.

Best regards,
Dale

Dale: What kind of timer do you mean? If they affect battery life substatially, I'd like to ensure I do not add any without consideration.

We had one out of several dozen 950's that wouldn't sit properly in the dock. You'd have to jiggle it a bit. We just adjusted the tabs and all was good.

We have had zero 980's that did not sit properly in the dock and in fact just did a home with 12 of them...all remotes dock just fine w/o paying attention to the position in the dock.

It is possible, the tolerances are pretty tight so if you have one, tweak the tabs a bit. Also, after the dock indicates a full charge, check the battery with a meter.

LOL. It doesn't literally jump out of the charger! It does, however, require a very light downward press to engage. When you remove the pressure, the LED reeeally wants to turn blue again, and it ceases to charge...
Now, if you release the added press just the right way, and if you hold your mouth the right way and all of the planets are the correct positions.....PRESTO....it will remain engaged (in charging mode.)

What I mean by "popping out" is that sometimes the circuit will not always remain closed. Sometimes it disengages after a few seconds, other times after a few minutes. Sometimes I get an indicated full battery, then you really don't know if it quit or finished charging.

Looks like I'll be carefully trying a prong adjustment. Thanks man. Love the remote.

I have 5 980's in my home. They all sit in the charger fine but one of them now only lasts about 2 hours out of the cradle before needing a charge. It sucks. I've only had them 6 months.

I have this problem also. I've also noticed that the battery on my 980 has expanded. That might be causing the other problem. It slightly distorts the battery cover and sometimes the remote won't seat in the base.

I just did a 980 for a client just last week, and he says once fully charged, he gets about 2hrs of use before the remote needs to be charged again. Remote will actually lock up prior to dying. Puts on charger and all is good after a full charge.

Could just be a bad battery.... could be something else. Going to replace the battery first and go from there.
All high's, all low's, it must be.......

I noticed that some of the remotes don't always meet up with the doc unless you intentionally place it in the doc.
The other battery improvement I noticed was to make sure you turn off all the RF your not using...
