I have two 700's and an 800 operating successfully in this house but weakened and purchased an Aeros to replace the 700 in the main (complex) system.

Just unpacked it but it refuses to connect to the computer, claiming the cable is faulty - it obviously is not as the other remotes communicate.

Am I missing something obvious or have I had the misfortune to buy a faulty unit?

TIA

Make sure you're using the MX-850 editor then perform a Live Update before downloading.

Thanks for responding.

Yes, I was using MX-850 editor, but if I cannot communicate with the PC, how can I do a live update. What can I do?

Update the editor BEFORE you try to communicate with the remote.

I assume you can 'communicate' with the computer, if not, there is a different problem ;-)
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

If you can connect with the other remotes with the same cable but not the 850, it may be a faulty remote.

Double check the connections (I'm sure you already did) and try pulling the batteries from the remote, waiting a couple of minutes, put them back in and try again.

Make sure the batteries are fresh as well. Just because the remote is new to you doesn't mean the batteries are 'new'.

Thanks Pilgrim

Yes I had tried removing & reinserting the batteries (and they all check over 1.5V with a meter).

But if I try to upload I get error code 110-27UU-0002 and if I try to send it data the error code is 110-27UU-0004

It refuses to communicate with the PC insisting the cable is faulty. It is not as it works fine with the 700.

It does look as if I have a faulty unit unless someone can see another answer.

Is the correct com port selected in the software?

Try moving the plug around a little when trying to access the remote to see if maybe the socket has come loose.

Am I striking this registration hurdle?

I can connect both the 700 and the 800 and determine the system version but cannot do a live update for either of those.

The MX800 shows the 850 editor here is pretty ancient as version 1.04 March 28 2005. There are many later versions. But if I try to do a live update with the 800 connected the download fails.

Now I'm not concerned with access to the library of codes. With some of the gear used here they are not there anyway, so I'm happy to use the learn function and have done this successfully.

However if I connect the new Aeros to determine the firmware version I instantaneously get error code 110-27UU-0004 with the pronouncement that either the cable is defective or the wrong port has been selected. As communication with the other 2 remotes is fine then obviously the cable is not defective and the correct port (COM2) has been selected.

So, if there is communication to the other 2 remotes, and, although ancient, I have the MX850 editor working, the correct port, a working cable, to my naive mind the only other possibility is that the new Aeros id defective and will have to be returned to the manufacturer. Correct or am I missing something?

TIA

Why are you trying to do a "Live Update" with the remote connected? That's not necessary. You have to update the software from the old version to get it to work with a new MX-850. Without the "Live Update" you'll get the error message you're getting with any new MX-850. After you download the update, you must close and reopen the program to apply the update.

Listen to the above posts:

In summary: Uninstall the editor.

Reinstall via consumer link at [Link: universalremote.com]

Ensure that the com port you are using in you device manager matches the com port in the mx editor. Turn off computer. Attach the remote to the computer via the com port. Turn computer back on and start up the mx editor.

Report back when you have done all of that.

Thanks tweeterguy, I've now registered and am following your advice.

Apologies for being so thick (A bit jetlagged still - my excuse and I'm sticking to it).

I'll report back later.

Success.

THANKS EVERYONE

The new Aeros now has all macros etc downloaded that were on the 700. It is years since I set up the other remotes so I was in the dark about what to do.

Your generous help most appreciated.

This is an invaluable forum - this remote would have been a piece of junk without your help.

Glad you got it working.

What happened is essentially URC made some kind of upgrade to the remote hardware and any remote produced after a certain date will not communicate with an old version of the editor.

Since URC disabled Live Update on the old editor versions, it would not update and thus wouldn't work. But when you downloaded the new editor that was a more recent version that will work.

Thanks for the explanation - makes sense from what was a perplexing situation.

But all is well that ends well. The remote is functioning 100% and I can see why others prefer it to the 700. I do too :-)

So, what is the current version of the Editor s/w for the MX-850? I have the exact same problem as above (new MX-850 gets comm error, while the old MX-850 communicates fine)... my editor is 1.12.288, and there is no 'live update' choice under Help.
