Customer "upgraded" to a new HR-21 and the issue at hand is the navigation keys don't respond well. Up, Down, Left & Right work intermittently or if you push up and it doesn't work, you push it again and then you nav. up twice through either a guide or a DVR list. Learning these 4 commands took around 20 minutes and still didn't fix them. The sat is being controlled through a MRF-250 and everything else works great. This occured on two differnet remotes and there is no interference on the MRF-250 (surprise!). Any thoughts or opinions?

Replace mrf-250 with mrf-260 or 350, problem will be solved. The IR DB commands work 100% for that box...I have dozens in the field.

Edit, you have tested via IR first, correct? Trust me the commands work 100% from the IR DB, forget about learning.

9 ball, are you talking about controlling RF or IR? Because I too had issues with RF.

Can the MX-810 control the HR-21 via RF? It didn't work for me unfortunately.

I disagree that the commands work 100% from the IR DB. Which code are you using from the database Tweeter?

The navigation keys do not respond well at all is an accurate statement! The TIVO FF, RW and Pause buttons had to be learned manually, as well as the previous channel button. Now my client tells me the play button doesn't work while FF something.

Codeset 173. Just checked again in the programming of a client's MX-950. Believe me, if it wasn't working, we'd hear about it from this guy.

What do you mean by TIVO? This is no longer a TIVO device. As for the MX-810, I have no idea, we don't use them whatsoever. If you have old learned codesets in there, I'd delete all and recreate via the DB. Sometimes overwriting commands with new ones yields poor results, especially if there are learned ones sitting there.

Good luck.

I have a MX-980 and HR20-700. Until I just recently changed over to serial via a MSC400 I was running codeset 173 with no problems at all (direct from the remote, not through a MRF-xxx). I believe the HR21 uses the exact same codes (as do all recent DirecTv devices). I would ask if the customer has updated to the latest national release software (reboot and press 0 then, 2, 4, 6, and 8 less than one second apart as soon as the first blue screen shows up). I recall seeing many complaints on dbstalk about some of the prior releases and remote reliability (I am running the latest CE release).

Good luck in your quest to make it work.

These boxes seem to have trouble with that from time to time. I've had boxes lock up and take minutes to respond to remote input. The picture and sound are fine, but the guide/GUI just craps out. Seems the longer they are on, the more problems they have.

I agree. We've started turning them off in the macros. May or may not be of benefit since off is really just a standby that kills the a/v output but time will tell.
