My new MX-980 is controlling both Motorola DCH3416 HD-DVR's I have. 1 HD-DVR is downstairs with the MX-980 and the other HD-DVR is upstairs with a remote extender to the bedroom. Anyway of disabling the RF output for a specific device or completely disabling it? Or, is there anyway of changing the "cable" button on the DVR to an "aux" button like on some DirecTV receivers? Please help!! I'm still using 2 remotes to watch TV!!!!!

Disable IR for both cable boxes and set to rf. Assign an IR port for each box in the programming. Ensure the port matches the emitter route to its specific box. Set your channel id in programming and on the base after testing on zero for interference.

Thanks. Unfortunatley the 2 boxes are not routed together. They are completely independent of each other. The MX-980 only controls the home theater downstairs. I picked up a remote extender to control a TV in the bedroom on the second floor from the HD-DVR on the second floor. I thought because of the narrow band RF capability, it wouldn't effect a "cheap-o" product like the remote extender I picked up at a retail store. Guess I was wrong. I need another option.

Narrow band just means it's very specific to the frequency. But the frequency remains the same - 418mhz.

Are you trying to NOT control the upstairs DVR with the MX-980? What remote is currently making use of the "cheapie" extender?

Now you have me confused. Let's clear some stuff up:

You have an MX-980 in the theater with an MRF-XXX kit, right?

You then carry the MX-980 remote upstairs to the bedroom to control through the "cheap-o" IR extender for the local bedroom cable box?

If the assumptions above are correct. Create 2 devices of the cable box. One for upstairs with IR only enabled in programming and one for downstairs with RF only enabled.

If not, you need to be more specific as to exactly what devices, sources and the like are in both areas.

Thanks for the patience guys. I am only controlling the downstairs theater with the MX-980 with no MRF-XXX kit. It never leaves downstairs. I have an older MRC-100 from a MX-600 but that is unplugged. I am controlling the upstairs HD-DVR with the supplied remote and the "cheap-O" extender with same remote.

Gotcha. Easy. Go into the MX-980 editor. Click the RF Control in Programming and set all devices to IR only. Default is set for both IR and RF.

You're the Man!!! Worked like a charm! Now if you can tell me how to remove my mom in law and her soap operas from my theater I may call you a genius.

I'm having issues with RF controls on the MX-980. I have double checked the bottom of the base stations to make sure they match what I'm programming, and they do, but for some reason the base stations aren't receiving an RF signal from the remote. I have done a factory reset on the remote and re-downloaded my program but no luck. Any ideas? I currently have an MX-850 programmed to work these same base stations and it works just fine, so I'm out of things to try.

Your question seems to be, why am I not able to send RF commands from the remote to the base station (MRF-xxx, I assume)? If so, into the programming and select "Program" and look for an icon that controls RF assignments (it is to the right of the Punch icon in CCP). Once in the RF control menu, look for the device you are trying to control and select RF for that device.

That's the most obvious thing that comes to mind if you are unable to communicate via RF to the base station. Since the MX-850 works, I'll assume the antennas and RF IDs are correct.

Yes, all assigned IDs should be correct. As far as I can tell, the MX-980 software uses almost the exact same interface for assigning RF information to the remote as does the MX-850, which I have had no issues with, so I assume all of my settings are correct. The one difference I do notice is downloading the information to the remote. The MX-850 has two options, the second of which specifies that RF commands, among everything else, will be sent to the remote. The MX-980 I only see one download option. My assumption was RF signals were sent to the remote automatically even though this was the only option. Maybe this isn't the case. I can't think of anything else.

Make sure you pair the base to the remote in the software and select the correct channel ID for the base. In CCP I think you go into House Designer and right click on the remote and hit Properties. Then select the base from the selection menu.
