Wondering if anyone else had problems with the usb cable that comes with he MX-900 lately? Most of them don't seem to work on my different computers (tried it on three dfferent ones). Luckily I have an older cable that always work. Gives me the "can not connect" message. Probably program 7 of them per months so no user error...

This is a very common cable, you can find it at local computer or digital camera stores. Invest into one of those gold plated by Belkin.

Connect the remote directly to your computer, DO NOT connect through USB hub.

Yup - mine was a dud, and I recall reading somewhere of other people having the same problem. Oh well - I have plenty of those cables :)

Why gold plated? Please don't tell me it improves USB transfer.

And half the gold plated ones aren't gold plated contacts...just the outside shield connector.

If you don't already have a million of those cables I'm sure you know someone that does and won't mind giving you one.

urc went through a spell of alot of bad cables with the mx900s a few months ago, and if you got one that had been at the distributor for a while, it could be one of those... i personally use a shorter one because i always have the remote right beside the laptop and it doesnt get as tangled in my computer bag with all the other crap i keep in there. whenever going to a customers house, always make sure you have a known working cable and dont rely on the one that they include.

"Gold Plated" actually is a marketing tool to promote products at higher price. Customers have the perception of whatever sounds fancier than will work better.

In general, better made, higher in quality cables arent much differ in cosmetic from those cheaper, lower quality cables. So, that is the reason for "gold plated"

I'm confused with your response here? So your saying the reason for gold plated USB cables is because it's fancier? Your response above is contradictory and vague. Gold is a better conductor for all AV connections, but highly unnecessary for a USB cable, and you won't see a faster transfer rate because you have gold plated connections, just possibly a better connection.

My post was more about whats going on with the bad cables from URC and less how to work around it. I usally don't drag a USB hub with me to customers houses for fun but obviously plug the remote directly in to the laptop. I have a couple of good working cords with me all the time just incase one fails.

I am just suprised that we have been buying remotes with bad cables for close to six months now and no fix? Don't think AVAD where we buy most of our A/V stuff keeps a gazillion of these in stock but reorders quite often.
