I have a Philips Home Theater System Model HTS3440/37. The unit came with the home I just purchased. I am trying to get my Brighthouse Cable Company remote, Model number UR5U-BH8000 to control the Philips. As far as I can get when I enter the code 237, is the Philips will shut off like it is supposed to. The only problem is, it won't turn back on nor will it control anything other then the DVD when it is on.

I tried Philips and they sent me here.

I will appreciate any help.

Thanks
Grumpy

Hey Grumpy,

I googled your Philips system and your remote and figured out a couple things. For one it looks like the code 237 is for DVD & TV/DVD. The Philps part number you offer appears to be a Home Theater In A Box. I know with the Motorola/Comcast combination I have they have a category on the remote for Home Theater In A Box. Since I don't see that category for your remote I would use the codes in the Audio/Aux category. The codes I see for Philips would be 63, 188, 189, or 191. It's the next column over. If that doesn't work try the Auto Search Method. Good luck.

If that doesn't work you may have to look into a different universal remote.

...or maybe a different house.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

The thing to remember is that the cheap universal remote that come with you cable box won't always work everything that you may own. It like the free cables you get when you purchase a piece electronics, what are they worth? nothing because they are free.

What does the house have to do with it? Whatever bearing your suggestion has on the conversation I'm sure it doesn't help Grumpy any.
