I'm trying to figure out how the Header Graphics on the MX980 works. I'm talking about the top left and right page indicators that show a graphic of which page you on. When I have made modification of the pages for a device, they don't seem to change as I would expect. Has anyone figured this out yet?

I haven't experienced any problems with it, what specifically are you trying to do?

The header graphic shows how many pages you have for the device and which page you are on. For example, if you are on page 3 of five, the graphic shows three pages on the left side of the graphic and two on the right. If I delete a page from the device, I need the graphic to change to reflect the new page count, but when I do, the graphic does not change. So my question is, how do you get the graphic to reflect the proper number of pages for the device?

The graphic is part of the entire page. You have to change the entire page to the correct one so that the tabs at the top match up correctly. You can't delete page 3, you have to delete the last page and move all the buttons up a page.

I hope I'm wrong and there is an easier way but that is what I discovered when I was playing around with it. But I haven't spent a bunch of time on it.

I'd try to help but I just don't understand what you're referring to. On the MX-980 Editor there are three windows. The left side shows the pages that have been created, the middle shows the graphics (in either simulate and/or page view mode) and the right provides an opportunity to manage the commands and graphics. What is a "header graphic"?

I am able to change the graphic (image, buttons, text) behind each page and in many cases that's exactly what I've done.

he means at the top of the color screen on the remote itself, it shows what page you are currently on (or so it should). but as described above it doesnt change the graphics automatically when you delete a page or change the order of pages (that i know of) which is very inconvenient. i set most of my pages via copy and pasting to a device then added buttons and commands before i figured out how to change backgrounds, so i'm in the same boat with all my pages in a device showing as the 4th or 5th page... or whatever.

its just too tedious to go back and redo every page so the graphics match, and what about future changes? this is definately something that should be addressed.

So what appears to be happening is this...on top of the background is a 3d-like graphic showing page "tabs". On top of that is another graphic that acts as a header...as you flip through the pages, this header moves right or left, to reflect a subtraction or deletion on the right or left depending on which way you are scrolling...so far i have only found a "onepage" header, and a "fivepage" header...somewhere in the graphics pack there should be other "headers" for fewer page devices...maybe Dale can tell us where they are located in the pack, or when they will be available?

Instead of depending on the tabs, maybe just do a 1 of 2, 2 of 2, 3 of 2 type button.

Yes, you're right. I created the header system so that all you have to do to change the number of tabs is swap out the header mask image. Wider masks produce pages with fewer tabs; narrower masks show more tabs. To change WHICH page you're on, all you have to do is move the header mask image left or right by ten pixels (which can conveniently be done by selecting the header mask image and then pressing Shift+Left or Shift+Right twice). Once you know how it works, you can swap out the number of pages in a whole device in a minute or so.

I'm not sure why the masks didn't end up in the galleries, but I do have the files ready. I'm happy to upload the other header masks here, but the host I use seems to be converting my PNG graphics into JPGs. Until I find a better hosting solution, you can also create your own header masks by taking the on you've already got into your photo editing software. The current 5-page header mask is 142 pixels wide. To make it a 6-page header, chop 10 pixels out of the center section of the image. To make it a 4-page header, add 10 pixels to the center section. Once you've got the correct image, just replace the mask that's already there and move it left or right as necessary.

Best regards,
Dale

Good news!

Our good friend Bracken Baker at tripleBsoftware.com (publisher of the very popular and soon-to-be-version-2.0 DMX-3000 for the MX-3000) has offered to host the files on his site. Be sure to check out DMX-3000 while you're on his site!

Click here to download header images for any of the MX-980 templates that support changing the header masks. (The Text Only template does not support this.)

Thanks Bracken!
