I am scheduled to receive my MX-810 tomorrow and am trying to get the programming done ahead of time to the extent possible. I ran into my first problem. I am hoping it is something simple. I have added a Harman Kardon AVR 235 and Samsung HL-R4667W device. When I create an activity such as Watch Tivo I get to the screen where it asks which input. The problem is that the list is blank for both the TV and receiver. I have no way to specify which input to use. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, I have extensive experience with Pronto, and OFA JP1 remotes and some experience with Harmony but no direct experience with URC. Thanks.

Yes, for some reason those two devices don't seem to have inputs in the database.

You can add the inputs yourself in tune up, solve automated activity problems, change input management method for a device with inputs.

Thanks. That helped a lot. I'm still puzzled why my devices didn't have any inputs. Both devices had soft buttons defined for each input. So I would assume that the database should know that discrete codes exist for each input. In fact I even used the device called "Samsung TV Discrete functions 2006" instead of my specific model and it still didn't show any inputs. One would think that that device would have inputs in the database. Just for kicks could someone let me know of a TV or receiver models that is defined correctly in the database so I can see how it's supposed to work? Also is some there some system in place to report errors and/or omissions in the database? Thanks again for the help.

It makes sense for the discrete functions not to have any inputs associated because it is a set of codes and not a TV. I used my TV model and then copied the discrete codes I needed over.

The Samsung LN-T5265F has the inputs defined if you want an example.

Thanks for the help so far. I have already setup the inputs on the HK AVR 235. I think I'm getting the hang of things now. However I have come across another problem. I have a Shinybow 4x2 component video matrix switcher that I have setup as a device that need to have inputs managed and have set it up to use discrete inputs. The problem is that in my "Watch HD DVR" activity it doesn't allow me to specify which input to use on the switcher. It only asks me for the input on my receiver and TV. I have tried everything I could think of in the Activity Tune Up section but can't get it to work. On the screen entitled "Which device needs to have Inputs managed by the MX-810", the switcher shows up properly in "devices with inputs" side of the screen. BTW, I now have the remote and can test it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Jay,

you should be able to do this through the Broswer. Open The Universal Browser, open file for your 810, click on the "Activity" button so that your activities show up on the emulated screen, click once on the "Watch HD DVR" activity and the macro steps should in the bottom window. Now find your component video switcher commands in the tree menu and drag/drop the discreet input command from the window to the right of the tree area into your macro window.... Hope this helps....

I tried doing something similar by adding a step (button for discrete input) to the activity in the "Tune up" screen. But it didn't work. If I use the device screen the discrete button works, but not in the activity. I am going to add the extra step via the browser now to see if it works. I am also having a similar problem with the discrete power on for the Samsung TV. It works in device mode, but even though the activity has a step which says turn on TV, it doesn't. I learned the discrete ON and OFF command onto the ON and OFF hard buttons for the TV device. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Jay,

Try setting different delays for the devices, I had similar problems and that help me. Adding delays to the macro may help, but in the wizard you can add the delay for the device to power on which allows the tv or switcher time after you power it on to then switch inputs. You might have tried this but I just wanted to make sure. Also, you can add samsung discrete as a device and drag those files over in the browser. When I learned the commands they didn't always work but the discrete codes did. Hope that helps.

milz18,

Thanks for the help. I have tried what you suggested and many other things. I am having mixed success. At this point I am going to re-group and probably start another thread with some specific questions. I must say that at this point I like the remote itself, but the software leaves a lot to be desired. It reminds me of the Harmony software (which I don't care for either). I am reasonably confident that I will eventually be able to do what I want. It's just frustrating that the software is not more straight forward.
