I have searched for this and read some threads about it but I still don't understand the proper way to convert pronto hex files to URC compatible and usable files. I've tried using the universal browser and can get the hex file to show up in the hex part of the browser but when I drag the command to a button it doesn't show up as anything? Any insight would be helpful?

What remote do you have, and what version of the editor are you using?

I don't have a current version of the Universal Browser myself, so I'm not sure, but I haven't read anything here that implies Universal Browser can read Pronto Hex strings from a hex file.

Universal Browser (old or new) can read (drag) Pronto Hex from a CCF file. Is that what you meant?

Universal Browser (new) lets you paste (from the clipboard) in Pronto Hex strings. You could use Notepad or other text editor to copy (to the clipboard) those Pronto Hex strings from a hex file.

Maybe I don't understand what you mean by "hex file". I was assuming you mean a text file containing Pronto Hex strings.

I received a spreadsheet with all the codes from Onkyo/Integra and for every command there is a pronto code(hex/binary) in 3 different pronto ID's, I basically click on the code- highlight the complete hex command and copy to the clipboard, then go into the 900 editor and in the browser click on the "hex" box and in that box click on the paste icon, at that point the hex command shows up in the box. Now I click the "drag hex" button and drag to the physical button I would like the command to reside at but the editor does not show anything on that specific button( by pointing your mouse at the button it should show a "L" under the button). But no matter what I do it never actually transfers the hex command to the button. I believe that I have the process down correctly but cannot make it work. I do understand that the URC editor will only accept Pronto style hex, altho I don't know if the info given by Onkyo is correct( it just says its in a Pronto format)

Any help or insight would be appreciated

I assume that what I am looking at is a pronto hex string( my bad wrong terminology). What follows is the what the document from Onkyo calls Pronto code ID 1 for the "direct tuning "command, does this look like a correct pronto hex string?

0000 006D 0022 0002 0156 00AB 0015 0015 0015 003F 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 003F 0015 0015 0015 003F 0015 003F 0015 0015 0015 003F 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 003F 0015 003F 0015 003F 0015 003F 0015 003F 0015 0015 0015 003F 0015 003F 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 003F 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0676 0156 0055 0015 0E47

Sorry for the long response but this is my first attempt at trying to import pronto codes into a URC editor.

TIA for any help,
Barry

Now
I click the "drag hex" button and drag to the physical
button I would like the command to reside at

Hopefully someone who has the new version of Universal Browser can tell you whether the above is correct or what detail of that GUI you might be misunderstanding.

I do understand
that the URC editor will only accept Pronto style hex,
altho I don't know if the info given by Onkyo is correct

URC editor actually accpts only a specific subset of Pronto hex. But the Onkyo sample you posted is a correct example of that subset of Pronto Hex, so the format of the Pronto Hex string is NOT the problem.

If you really get stuck with your currect method of importing those signals, you can get it done the old way:

Download MakeHex and either IrPanels or Hex2CCF (more details in many other threads in this forum).

Edit NEC1.irp to change the device to 210.2 (you may need to do this again for other device numbers as indicated in that Onkyo spreadsheet).
Drag/drop NEC1.irp onto MakeHex.exe to produce a .hex file of all 256 possible signals for device code 210.2.
Convert that to a CCF using IrPanels or Hex2CCF
Open the CCF in Universal Browser and drag from the numbered buttons of the CCF to named buttons of you MX-900.

I expect the Onkyo spreadsheet shows you the subdevice number (the .2 mentioned above) and the function number (223 for the sample you quoted) for each function. You need that information to follow the above instructions. If that isn't obvious from the spreadsheet, I probably can explain it better after seeing that spreadsheet. If you want to use MakeHex and need more help, you can email the spreadsheet to me (address in profile) or preferably if possible post a URL to this thread from which anyone trying to help you could download that spreadsheet.
