I've been reading the materials available on this website for a long time (and have found lots of helpful advice here). So first of all a thanks to everyone who posts and to those who manage the forums. I am moving up from a MX-850 to a MX-980 (primarily because of the lack of variables in the MX-850). I would like to program the MX-980 myself. I've read the thread on getting software for an URC remote. The only problem is that the MX-980 is not an option in the drop down choices available at: [Link: universalremote.com].

Does that mean I cannot get the software for the MX-980 at all? For what it's worth, I purchased my MX-980 from Magnolia HiFi in Seattle.

Thanks.

K.M.

the software is to be provided by the dealer you purchased from. i believe there are a few ways of doing this. i have one (an MX 980) enroute to me now, and apparently i will be gievn a password to the dealers site where i will be able to download the software.

variables eh? seems i will have some learning to do! :-)

Mangolia should be able to give you the software.

I bought an MX 950 from Magnolia and they would not give me the software. They told me that it's their policy not to do so.

Well, for the MX-980, they kind of have to, or the remote is totally useless for them to sell as URC has no direct downlaod for the software.

Pretty much call Mangolia, tell them you need the software or you'll have to return the remote because you can't use it otherwise.

Only the dealer that sold the MX980 to you can provide the software. The MX950 software is downloadable from URC's site.

I would personally contact URC and tell them that Magnolia will not provide the s/w. If URC will not provide the s/w I would return the MX-980. Please post your results so others know how URC will handle this situation; I am sure others will have the same experience.
Best Buy Magnolia is an authorized dealer however URC does not mandate that their AD's supply the updateable s/w. My guess is that Magnolia will program the remote; at a price obviously.
Good Luck!

I've purchased the MX-980 from an authoized dealer and received a CD with the software on it. I've updated the software which appeared to be successful. However, I don't seem to have access to all of the cool images that Darnitol posted on the "MX-980" thread. I'd really like to use some of these cool templates and buttons. Certainly, the thumbs picture is better than having to type words in a stupid box.

How do I get these?

They're not available yet. At some point, they will be made available to dealers and you should be able to get them from your dealer.

So I'm stuck in the same boat here with no MX-980 software and apparently no way to get it. I can't download it from the URC website, I don't have access to the URC Control Room (unless someone can provide me with a Personal Invitation Code or Registration Code) and the dealer (Magnolia) doesn't have the software. I wanted to program the unit this weekend but instead I've got a nice looking remote that controls NOTHING!! I'm not happy and I don't know what else to do.

Can anyone help? Anyone from URC working to make this work for those of us that don't want or need a custom installer (if I was able to program the MX-810 with all it's quirks I'm sure I can handle the MX-980)?
URC MX-980; MRF-350; Pioneer Pro-150FD 1080p 60"; Toshiba HD-XA2; Meridian 861; Meridian DSP5200/DSP3100/DSP500C speakers; DVDO VP50Pro; Tivo Series 3 (HD) w/ 1GB storage; Squeezebox 3

Either try contacting URC (800-901-0800) or send a pm to Eric Johnson (VP Tech) [Link: remotecentral.com] .

Let us know how this is resolved.

URC is closed for the weekend. I sent a PM to Eric...I'll post an update if and when I get a reply. If anyone else has ideas, I'm open to hearing them via post or PM. Thanks!

Someone at Magnolia must have access to the software. If they're telling you otherwise, that's BS. As long as they're selling it without programming, they should either give you the software or take back the remote.
