I'm new here. Just got an MX-880Z and was surprised to discover that importing graphics was so difficult and discovered this forum.

I spent some time last weekend analyzing the .VFD files and they appear to be in a proprietary format. So you won't be able to edit them by changing the file type to .ZIP etc.

I've successfully written code to extract the files from a .VFD archive and create a new .VFD archive from a directory full of files. I was able to use this to enter custom device icons for my MX-880Z and my first test seems successful. I see the custom icons on the remote.

If there's interest I can share my program. It's very spartan. It's just a command-line app but it's getting the job done for me.

I'm definitely interested in this program, but I'd like Darnitol to chime in on this; he seemed to imply that you'd be able to do this without jumping through all these hoops.

Worst case, you can always use the editor instead of the ccp suite; I think replacing the files in one of the existing 'images' directories should work.

Hi I recently got a MX-880. I had somebody program it for me, but they were not very knowledgeable about the remote so they couldn't help me hack the icons. I have looked through the steps in this thread and I have no clue how to do this. I know how to use photoshop and can make the graphics that I need. I also know where I neod to put them in my C:/programfiles... Could someone please help to walk me through the process from a complete idiots perspective as I have no idea how to use the software. Thanks.

Shoot me a private message. There's a pretty good chance your program would be a good candidate for our URC Control Room Tool Box.

Best regards,
Dale

Adding my new layout for the WD TV Live HD media player:

Also made these ones for my new Wii and WD TV Activity icons:

I haven't uploaded these to my remote yet, but they should be fine.

yergacheffe,

I would be interested in your command-line program to decompress VFD files so that I can edit graphics and re-compress them back into VFD files for use with the CCP editor. Please let me know how I might obtain a copy of your program.

Thanks.

I noticed a few of you with custom Sonos graphics. Are you actually controlling your Sonos system with your URC remote?

If so, is there anything special you need to do to program it as I was not aware that this was possible.

No, mine just switches my A/V receiver to the Sonos input and turns off the TV, etc. I still have to use my Sonos controller to do anything with it.

Sonos can be controlled by custom-written clients, but they need to speak SOAP. That's not a trivial protocol to use, even if the client has SOAP abilities. I know that some people have written their own SOAP controllers but it's just so much work, and the official controllers are far better.

As a new member to the MX810 family, I would appreciate any and all custom logos and programming. This thread is fantastic for the novice remote tinkerer. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.
