Hello all, it's been a while since I've posted here, but recently updated my old TSU-2000 to the MX-900. I used a purely macro technique and hidden 'alias' pages with the 2000, this made it very easy to update gear without having to go to every button where you used a command and change it.

I do understand and have used the punch through technique for the power/channel/volume commands, but do any of you have a programming technique that may be simillar to the TSU-2000?

I'm assuming buttons are still active on hidden pages?

(I don't have the remote yet, but have begun programming)

Matt,

I think that you would be better off programming the MX900 in the style URC intended instead of programming the MX900 in the style that the old pronto was programmed.

I used to program prontos and found them very frustrating and was happy to switch to URC. In changing devices it is simply a matter of changing the IR code for that device and making sure that inputs and other commands are the same on the macros.

Punch throughs should not have to be changed or reconfigured when changing devices as long as the ir code for the new product was previously changed.

Just my 2 cents of advice,

Dave T.

Thanks for the response Dave, so upon a watch / DVD selection your recommending that I just drag and drop the commands from the database directly into the macro for that button, and each and every macro individually?

I was thinking that it might be more produtive to use macro records to hidden device pages, this would result in only changing one IR code and all the macros would reference that new changed code. Or perhaps that's what you said in your post...

The easiest way to make a macro is to go to veiw and click on the both simulated and pages. Double click the pages that you want from the tree veiw and click the commands you want.

Yup, got it now.

Some of the macro steps show icons to the left, and some don't, is this just a software glitch?

Is there a list of known glitches?

Matt,

This is how I program my MX-900s.

1. Start with a new configuration. I usually start with the " Empty - no devices"

2. Go to "program" and click on "Create and name devices". Enter devices that you are going to use such as DVD or satellite receiver.

3. Go to "program" and click on "ir database". Select the best match for your devices. Test make sure that the codes for "power on" "power off" and inputs codes are correct and work for your system.

4. Go to "program" and click on "edit buttons". Here move the commands around to make sure that the buttons that you will use will be on the 1st or second page. Move other buttons to pages that you will hide.

Now compose the macros. On the watch page hit the DVD button and turn on the macro recorder by hitting the "M" on the second to the top task bar or you can hit the circle under the "general tab in the right side of the screen. When the macro recorder is on then the circle will turn red. Next simply select the commands that you want in your macros from the tree view on the left or the remote in the center.

One nice thing about the MX editor is how easy the macros are to test. You can test the macros without downloading to the remote.

If you wanted you can compose a macro page and hide it, but I don't see the real benifit in doing it this way when the other way is possible.

Why do some of my macro steps have a icon to the left, and some don't. The link is to a screen shot of the question.

Step 3 and 4 don't have a icon, but when I go to the associated page there is a command 'learned' on that button.

Is this just a glitch in the program?

All of mine show icons. Do all of the codes work?

Matt,

When you select a command for a macro it will have a red button on the upper left of the button or a "L" on the bottom left. If the "L" is not on the bottom left then I don't think the code was learned correctly. Again, as asked above are all the macros working properly.

Ok, I think I'm the right track now, but, do you have to save your changes after every change? It seems like some my changes are not saved, and when I exit and open the program again, things are not the same as when I closed it.

Matt,

Yes, you have to save it after learning each button unless you hit the "continue to next button". When learning a series of buttons such as numbers the editor will jump to the next button. When in this mode it is only necessary to save it after the last learn.

You can make sure the code is learned to the button by looking for the "L" on the bottom left of the button.

No learning for me, all my gear is in the database, except for video input 7 of the television. Just had to use the Universal Database to pull that in from a .ccf and it's all good.

Seems like a neat little remote, my programming is pretty much complete (for now) hopefully I have it in my hands Monday afternoon...

Sweet, everything works well, there were a few glitches as usual, but it's all good now. Thanks for everyone's input!!

(FYI URC, the Sony KD-XBR960 discrete codes are reverse than in the database, meaning power off is actually power on and visa versa)
