Could someone tell me how to attack this problem? I have a new compuiter with no com ports at all. I have an MX-700, and cannot figure out how to program it without a com port. I did buy an adapter cable for the usb to 9 pin cable. The mx-700 tells me the remote needs a comp port. I would be very grateful to anyone that can help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance

Do a search on "serial usb cable adapter" and you'll find some products that people have used. Some have had more success with one cable or adapter while others have had more success with another.

Your computer has com ports. It is just missing serial ports. The aformentioned keyspan adaptor works great. I use a Belkin just fine as well. You have to remind your software what com port to use with the Belkin.

Best Buy has a Usb -> Serial port adapter by Dynex for like 20 dollars....But you will need to google the Drivers for it...it to me like 5 min to install on my comp....There is a delay when testing or lerning IR codes and with Downloading+uploading info....But its not long

Hope this helps

If you have a usb-serial adapter, click on 'communications' in the editor and you can select the com port that works.
