I created a macro to watch a dvd; it powers everything up and makes the appropriate settings. Problem is the macro worked for a day then stopped turning on the DVD player. I used 'eject' as the power command as the dvd doesn't have a discrete code. Is there any reason it would stop working? Additionally I created a macro to turn everything off and it worked fine for a day then once again the dvd player 'played' up. I used 'power' as the command since I figured the dvd player had to be on if I've jut watched a dvd.
Cheers

is the system all line of sight IR? or is there RF being used? Equipment model numbers may also be useful. Sounds like a delay problem, or a weak code to me.

All line of sight, IR only. The dvd player is a JVC DRMH30.
Best of all I just tried the macro again and it worked! I must be going crazy.

Perhaps you could use "play" instead of "eject" for your ON macro. For your OFF macro, you might want to try "play" and then "power". This is better than simply using the "power" toggle, because it will result in your player being off regardless of which state it was in prior to the macro.

Maybe the batteries are getting weak? Just guessing...

you can check the ir out put by taking the remote into a dark room and looking into the infred eye through a digital camera. If the flash is weak it the remote or the batteries. If it strong its something in the program or the remote. my vote would be the remote or the batteries

The remote is brand new and so are the batteries but I tried a new set just in case and it works intermitently no matter what. The amp, tv and cd player always work, it's just the dvd player. I'll try to change the codes as Loraquest suggested and see if that helps.
