The Backlighting on my MX 700 has stoped functioning - it the blub replacable? If so, how do I access the bulb and where can I purchase a replacement bulb?

It's not a bulb, it's an EL panel. They don't really ever burn out, but can grow dim over time. The problem is possibly with your Light button; a small arm that pushes a microswitch on the circuit board sometimes breaks off. If it no longer seems to "click" nicely that's likely it.

If it still seems to press normally, then it's possible (but unlikely) that there's some grungle inside that could be preventing the EL panel from making proper contact with the circuit board (it's just a press fit). However something else could be burned out or broken.

If you really want to, instructions on how to open the remote (or the MX-500) have been posted several times before (look in the Universal Remote Control Inc. forum). However if you aren't technically or electrically inclined I would strongly suggest sending it into URC... the case can be easily damaged when prying open.

Thanks, I will send it back to URC. The button still clicks, so it sounds like something other than the light button. Is there a specific department to contact to arrange for the repair or do I just ship it back to them?

For anyone who might be interested, I just got off the phone with URC and they gave me an RA number and asked that I ship back the remote. Said it would take about 1.5 weeks and there may or may not be a service charge. The phone and shipping address for this type of problem is: Warehouse & Service Facility, 420 Columbus Ave.
Valhalla, NY 10595, (914) 835-4484
Thanks to all who responded for your help.
