I've been using the MX-900 and enjoying it as a remote for the RF/IR capabilities with my Dish Network DVR 522 dual receiver that is upstairs(using the RF w/ MRF-250 which controls Tuner 1 of dual SAT receiver by IR) but the rest of my main home theater is downstairs(IR).

I would like to use this same MX-900 when upstairs but think I will have a problem controlling the other Dual tuner 2 of the Dish DVR 522's IR since I now have the DVR tuner 1 receiving the MX-900 RF to IR.

Can I teach the MX-900 to know the IR of the Dish Tuner 2 IR remote to accomplish this work-around so I can use this remote at each location.

If I did not want to do this and just have 2 MX remotes but don't really need the RF feature but want same/similar programming methods software that I'm already familiar with on the MX-900, what would you recommend? Or is there another MX model that would let me use my MX-900 saved programmed files into and just delete the few items not needed for the upstairs IR DVR 522 tuner 2?

One more while I have a chance...is there a way to have the MX-900 light-up when keys pressed(maybe a hack or something). It should would be a nice firmware upgrade or hack.

Thanks in advance,

iirc, the second tuner in the Dish network boxes can only be controlled by their RF remote.

Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking about programming the MX-900 to learn the IR from the Dish Tuner 2 remote manually(Learn-mode) and wonder if that would work since the Dish 522 has the capability for 2 IR remotes controlling each tuner. Currently I have the Dish 522 setup for IR on each of the 2 tuners but used the preset 522 IR codes to program the MX-900 and just have the MRF-250 do the RF conversion in the room with the Dish 522 box.

Any advice/recommendations of this arrangement.

Thanks again.

Again,

You CANNOT control side number 2 of your dish 522 with IR control. It only works with the factory RF remote. You cannot make your MX remote learn the RF and you can't use it's RF to control side 2.

Both tuners can be controlled with RF, but only side 1 can be controlled with IR.

I understand, DISH said the same thing, in that Tuner 2 can only be used as their UHF while the Tuner 1 can be either. I was hoping the tuner 2 could be IR and allow for this MX-900 to be use when upstairs since we usually don't need it for both tuners at the same time and we've become more familiar with the button location o fthe MX-900 more than the DISH UHF remote.

So any ideas on URC remotes for the UHF requirements for tuner 2 on the DISH 522. DISH tech support mentioned that there are some UHF universal remotes for their 522 but did not have any model or brand names just check with Radio Shack.

Any recommendations since my set-up requires the tuner 1 to be IR and tuner 2 can only be UHF?

As lways thanks for the expertise and willingness to help.
