Are the MRF-260's compatible with the MX-850? It claims narrow band RF...is that only the 900's and up?

as long as the mx-850 was built after 11/06. Open the battery compartment and look at the s/n sticker. you will see a # with a date code. ie. 1006 1106 etc.

Installers did not ask for a 50% price increase and 2
less outs.
Moving to 3.55 mm plugs should have standardized things
and saved costs in the long run.

Pros
Narrow RF
2 Variable Tuning
3.5MM

Cons
2 less IR

$50 increase or 50% increase

Aesthetics are a tossup.

I am ok w/ the cutting of the IR outs to keep it farther
apart from the MRF350, but the $50 increase is weird.

In addition to Pro's, the outputs are buffered so you can plug in directly to a IR input on the back of a device, so no ugly emitter on the front of your new $5K plasma or LCD (not all panels have this feature as yet). The MRF250 wasn't capable of this.

That was implied w/ the variable tuning.

I rarely use flashers anyway. I either use rear IR inputs or the blaster. BTW if you use the blaster on the MRF-250 you will rarely get RF interference. I have come to believe the interference is carried back into the unit on the flashers like they were antennas. I also found some 3.5mm to the little tiny plug adaptors at an everything $1 store. I think they were origionally made for something on a Nokia phone. I bought 20+ of them and now I am almost out.
What I am getting at is that if you find yourself needing more flashers then just turn on the blaster and hope you do not need to route the IR.

Oh No way on depedning on the blaster.
That's a return trip guaranteed. If you charge for it, that's really not cool.

Never had a return trip. You do understand that the RF unit cannot be wadded up and shoved behind the gear? It must be mounted to the rack. Flashers ALWAYS fall off and that is a return trip. The ideal is to sell them real gear that has rear IR inputs.

Hey, if it works for you.

I don't know many that regularly depend on the blaster.

Hi,
I´m a newbie and this is my first post, I have a mx-900 which I love, to control a simple HT. I would like to have RF control in order to be able to control equipment behind cabinet doors, and also because I´m planning to automate some lighting.
I have been reading about the mrf-350 and mrf-260, given that both end up at about the same price range, which would you say is the top pick?
The 350 because of the number of outputs + separate antenna?

Regards,

Max.

The MRF-350 retails for $100 more than the MRF-260, so they're really not in the same price range. However, if the price differential is not an issue, I would go with the MRF-350 as it will give you more flexibility in installation. In addition to having two more wired emitters, they all can be adjusted for output level and the separate antenna allows for optimal placement and performance.

I agree on the bad nomenclature.
They should have planned for it.

MRF260, 350, MSC400 is kind of confusing vs. say
a 260, 360 and 560, but it's a pretty minor thing, but people do like the numbers and names to follow an easy to undertsand pattern.

All in all not that important. That's one of the reasons the 810 was confusing at the very very beginning.
