This is a new templete that I just completed for the MX3000

I would like to hear what you think.

Over the last couple of day we formated over 10,000 album covers. So we can custom build a Fireball directory on the MX3000 kind of the the DMX3000. This is our beta version, so it is still a little rough

Very Slick, but I've got to ask why?
I'd love to hear more about how you got it all to work, but isn't the point of the Escient to use the OSD for sort, find, play?

Yes the best way to use the Escient is to use the on screen display or a computer, but I have a lot of clients that have several MX3000's and they don't want to have to turn on a TV or go to a computer to listen to music, so this is the reason I started working on a system where they can just pick the albums that they want. Plus it can also be used on a multi disc cd changer.

Would you do this for Free? Most of my clients don't have a problem paying for cool toys, that is how I stay in business. I started this process because I have a client that wants it. And I have several others that pay each time I come up with something new.

I do understand that clients will pay for it, but it just seems like alot of work for the what a small reprogram. Most of us do larger jobs and less small 15 minute downloads plus x time for travel. I do my fair share of them but most of the clients that like that type of thing will but dvd's and cd's like candy. I do alot of custom graphics and custom buttons for alot of my clients and for the ones that like to change there remotes alot, I have loaded the remote program (the owners verson) to a pc and E-mail there basic changes. If they need more than that I set-up a service call. One of my largest client will have me change the whole theme for the holidays or for a special event. I just charge them for the time of the theme change. I change the theme about 16 time a year, just by a E-mail.

The thing I love about the MX3000 and Remote Central is the group effort to grow and build a platform for bigger and better things with this remote. It sound like your a good programmer with a lot of templetes. I would love to see some of your work, you sound like you have a lot to offer the MX3000 community. If you have not seen the DMX3000 you should check it out. It a DVD based progam that organizes your DVD on the MX3000. For the last couple of years I have thought about the same thing with CD's. But to date I have not seen one, and have not had the desire to make one untill I had a client who was willing to pay. By no means am I saying that anyone has to offer this to their clients, or am I saying that they need to put evey CD the client owns on it, (maybe just some favorites). To me it was just a challange that I took for cash, and it was well worth while.

So out side of your business model and based off of a programming stance what do you think of the program?

It really looks like a great program. I did not mean to give you a hard time but just some the things that I have ran into in the past.

Lee,

Nobody has the right to tell you how to sell your eqipment or features, no matter what type of work is involved. here are some other comments I have based on your video:

- Have a woman record the demo. Voice must be soft and appealing. People will subconsicously think the remote is easier to use if a woman is going over the details and narrating the sequence of processess.

- Make the video a bit longer and start by explaining what the Escient is and what you can do with it. If you need to couple the Escient video demo they use on their website, that would be great.

- No need to go over that many album covers - they get the idea. Try to encompass some other things yu can do to use the time alloted.

Other than that, it seems like a great interface. Every time I sell an Escient the customer looks up with hopeful eyes while I am explaining it and asks "Do I see this on the remote?" They seem disapointed when I explain it's on screen only, so I am not going to knock your interface. If you can figure out a way to use this systematically and let the customer make web-based updates if he adds albums and stuff that would work well. Since URC is not close to doing any 2-way communication this is something that will appeal to most people.

Lee, let me add one more comment:

- Think of adding RTI and Pronto to your inventory. Both of these companies have 2-way remotes that may accomplish this for you. While RTI has a high end model that can display the cover art they are approaching the 2-way development stage. Pronto has alredy figured out a way to do this with 2-way RS-232 for Escient control

What about RS232 control? Has anyone used 232 to control the Fireball yet? I am planning to this week for the first time.

Thanks, BNC

rs232 control is excellent with fireball and fp1. you would not believe how many callouts they've provided for these machines. msc400 uses these devices well.

nice idea to minimize the amount of hassle your customers go through to pick another artist or favorite.

I have almost finished adding CD support for DMX-3000. Is there anything special I should be aware should I try to add Fireball support into DMX. I have a friend with one that I could do my testing with but any help going in would be great. ie. Macro style, certain settings that need to be done for IR navigation of the Fireball, etc.

This is a great idea because I don't have to be inside if I want to listen to something outside.
