I am very familiar with RF interference but this is something else. Of my 200+ remotes this is a first.... here goes:

Philips Plasma (dont ask)
Yamaha Receiver
Yamaha DVD player
SA 8300HD cable box
MX850 Ch E
MRF250 Ch E
Gear behind doors to the back left of the room.

Problem: When the client gets within 4 feet (approx) of the equipment location ALL cable box functions on the remote stop working. This is a problem because the equipment is above part of the seating area in a fairly small room so about 1/3 of the room is plagued. It even seems to affect IR with the doors open (from the MX remote only, the SA remote works fine). WTF! Why does it matter how close it is to the gear? Could it be a light or something else in the area? It seems to be affecting a specific zone/sphere.

By the way.... All other functions work fine from anywhere!

Thanks in advance!

I'm no expert, but I know that when I had a SA 8300HD, it put out RF interference like no other device I owned! SJ

Ya, but it should put out interference to the MRF regardless of how close the remote is to the equipment.

The MRF might be shielding the interference just fine while the remote is picking up the interference.

You DO have a uniqe one here, Corey!

Have you tried setting the 850 to RF only for the cable box?

If there is ANY chance that the box is receiving the 250's IR (slightly delayed) as well as the 850's IR, it won't function properly. Keep in mind the 850 has a very powerful IR blaster built in to it. I've noticed that you can control things in a room when the remote is aimed in the opposite direction.

Is the cabinet completely sealed when the doors are shut?

On the 250, are you using emitters our the built in blaster?

Try removing the antenna. I've had MRF-250s quit working when you get 4-5 feet from them and removing the antenna made all the difference. They would work great 5'-60'+ feet away, but not at 5' or less. It isn't common, but I've had it happen to me on an occasion or two.

Thanks guys! I did remove the antenna. In fact I remove the antenna on almost every install with a 250.

Pilgram:
I dont have it in RF only mode but with the cabinet doors closed the IR shouldnt be effecting it, right?

The blaster is on, but again why would it work from 4+ feet away?

It works perfectly from just outside the perimeter/sphere..... doors open or closed.

More and more I am thinking it is something interferring with the command being sent (subwoofer or light fixture) not the command being received like is usually the case.

I've seen things like this happen before. Try turning off the front blaster of the MRF and see if that helps.

Thank you,

1. Find a native american souvenier shop.

2. Buy a dream catcher

3. Write "interference" on a sticky note. Place sticky on dream catcher

4. hang dream catcher on the basestation.

5. come over and talk to us in the RTI forum about future projects.

I ran into a lot of problems with the SA8300 and found that the box is very susceptibl to IR overload. It is very possible that even with the doors closed you are sending enough of an IR command to rebder the box useless. I brought my box back to Cablevision and swapped it out for a new one and it was 100x better. Apparently there was a firmware update somewhere down the line that addressed some of the boxes problems.

Not to knock URC but I'll also admit that I set up an RTI system in the same environment in about 1/20th of the time with the RF working flawlessly without any tweaks, trials or tribulations.

I'm guessing he just wants people to click through to his e-store.
