Have you tried to Import either the Image or the Sound files, using the Editor on each button, from any other folders on your PC? Where are the custom images or wav files supposed to be stored for the Editor?

For sounds:

The MX-3000 only supports a limited number of .wav file formats. Most .wav editors are capable of reformatting files, so do a search for a free one and download it. Read one of your MX-3000 compatible .wav files into the editor and check the format (sample rate, etc.). Then load the file to convert, set the conversion options to match the properties of the working file and save it in the new format. That should work -- but note that .wav files demand a LOT of memory space, and there is a limit to the size that the MX-3000 will allow.

For images:

The MX-3000 supports .gif, .jpg and .png files. If your image files have a different file format, you'll have to get an image conversion program to convert them. The largest image supported by the MX-3000 is 320x240 pixels, so make sure you don't exceed this.

THE MX-3000 also supports BMP files. In fact, that's its native format. BMP files take up more memory than any other kind of file, but the also process faster, resulting in quicker page jumps.

The trade off is that you lose the ability to use transparency of any kind.

Thanks for correcting the omission. Note that JPG files also do not support transparency.

By the way, some BMP files DO support transparency with the lower left pixel indicating the color used for transparency. Does the MX-3000 support this BMP format?
