Couple Buys Shattered LCD TV at Circuit City

When it comes to liquidation sales, like the one at Circuit City, consumers need to be wary about buying potentially damaged merchandise.

A Massachusetts couple learned the hard way after purchasing a Samsung LCD TV for $1,100. When they opened the box at home, they realized the display was shattered. Not a crack, nick or ding. Shattered.

Because “all sales are final,” Circuit City’s liquidators will not refund the couple’s money.

“They said, ‘Sorry, your problem, not ours,” the frustrated woman told WCVB-TV in Boston.

You’re probably wondering why the couple didn’t check the TV before buying it? Some stores aren’t allowing consumers to open any boxes.

I just had a guy come in today and he bought a projector at CC and the lamp was shattered so now his good deal isn't that great anymore.

they deserved what they got. ...Well maybe not deserved, but I certainly don't have any sympathy for them.

If you're willing to drop $$$ on anything and not ensure what your getting is what you're paying for, you have no one to blame other than yourself.

I can't remember the last time I bought anything without cracking open the box first for inspection. Whether it be my camera, plasma, toaster oven, or even the swifer mob I got last week.

This is right up there with "I cant get ___________ to service my remote that i bought from ebay". Fill in the blank with any remote manufacturer you can think of.

Who in their right mind would buy anything from a company that the entire world knows is out of business?

I have to go now.. i got a guy from tweeter coming over.. im going to give him a check for $30,000.00 so he can install a home theater for me.

But apparantly only by the credit card company, not Circuit City (slash whomever is running it now).

The local @_@D opens every TV and makes you look at it and sign off on it before your allowed to take it. Since plasma became available i have never seen one cracked or shattered and i have yet to see a dead pixel on any of them. We sold Fujitsu & Sharp Aquos only until the last couple of years so maybe it was a QC issue with some of the other manufacturers.

I forced BB to open up the box for my Pioneer.

---"open it up, and take off the wrapping"
........"well, we're really not supposed to"
---"No problem, I'll go across the street"
........"Here you go sir"

The discussion lasted as long as that took to read...lol

So does my local pizza place when you come in to pick up. They open each box to make sure it is correct.

Back to topic, I finally went into my local CC last week and bought some HD DV tapes. I went to buy one, but they were actually a good deal so, I bought all they had.

But I did notice the store had a place at the front for people to power up anything they bought before they left the store.

My local pizza place ships all pizzas vertically oriented, just like panels, and man, do those pepperoni pixels slide!
I have ACTUALLY said this a thousand times: We can't help you much without the make and model of everything involved in the problem! Unless you want a vague answer. Or none. Your move.

well Ernie, I was going to post some long winded response to your bumping of this thread. Something like why respond to something so old, or what did you type in the search engine to find this. ...however, I'm just not in the mood.

Was there a reason...?...or are you just that bored?

I remember working in the warehouse at my old job. We opened up and powered on EVERY TV (yes even 13in panels) we received and signed and dated the boxes with the ultra sharpies. If it wasn't signed and dated we wouldn't give it to a customer. Wasn't to bad until X-mas time.

Where did you work? Sounds like a place I'd buy a TV from.. . ;-)
