I just picked up a Chinavasion CVSB-983 PC remote from Meritline. I figured for $8.00 shipped, I couldn't go wrong.

The remote itself works OK,but I'm having a tough time with my 659.

The unit is listed in the DB, but when I updated my remote with it, I got no response.

I then went and manually learned all the buttons. The process went smoothly, but still no response.

The original remote works as advertised, but my 659 might as well not exist as rar as the USB IR dongle is concerned.

Maybe I'm on entirely the wrong path. What I want is a cheap way to get Win 7 MCE functionality out of my 659. My plan was to use the dongle, scrap the remote and program the 659 as a Microsoft MCE remote.

I guess you get what you pay for.
