I went to the
FileSection/Upgrades, selected DVD (standard), went down to Sanyo, and downloaded 2 files, and opened them in RM.
Doing a File Search, and Forum Search are also useful, but it is sometimes difficult to find a good search term to narrow down the possibilities.
BTW, once you got a reaction from the DVD, it would then have been a very good idea to see which specific remote buttons caused the reaction. The using the Lookup Tool, we can find the exact IR protocol, and OBC function numbers which got a response. That makes it a lot easier to guess other function numbers to try.

Perhaps I should say "...happy for now"...
I did want to try investigating the mapping the buttons, just for the reason you stated. As I have learned with setting up remotes that "happy" is often relative and short lived! After a while people often ask "is there any way...?"
But I'm going to try your recommendation for file search to perhaps identify some EFCs for a Panasonic DVD/VCR combo I have lying around the house. This is a good patient to practice on!
