The work around for power is:
Power On:Menu, Power, Power
Power Off:Menu, Power
This works a majority of the time with the exception of when recordings are in progress.
This works very well. I'd rather have the box pop on and off to make sure it's on instead of hoping a firmware update doesn't wreck the switched AC outlet on HUNDREDS of systems I've done in the field... just sayin'... :)
