As for the switched outlet, you will need to change the settings in the menu to activate it as switched or un-switch. (Menu -> Menu -> Settings -> Cable box Setup). The Switched outlet won't be your problem, finding a transformer that has fast on, fast off capabilities will be. A lot of transformers can take over a minute, sometimes more to drain down to a low enough level that can not be detected by the VPS. I have tested quite a few, and most don't work.
