It is not possible to connect the two with just wire. I suggest just taping an ir emitter to an external ir receiver to make an optically issolated connection. You can wrap the whole assembly in electrical tape to stop outsite light from leaking in.

I would like to connect my own house-wide IR repeater system to a QIP 7216. I have several QIP 7216s located remotely in an equipment rack. Do you know which connections on the rear IR Remote Input Jack are IR Signal, Voltage and Ground? (The Verizon FiOS tech didn't know what I was talking about)

TIP = ?
RING = ?
SLEEVE =?

I'm going to guess that:
The SLEEVE is Ground
The TIP is Voltage (5v? 9v? 12v?)
The RING is IR Signal

But I don't like to guess! I only need to utilize the Ground and the IR Signal connections.
