The problem you are having is thinking that the commands are being held in the keypads. Thay aren't, not when you are using a processor like the RP-6. All the commands are stored on the RP-6, and the only thing being transmitted through the CB-8 are trigger codes for the processor.
Now, in stand-alone scenario, a standard IR connecting block will NOT pas 232 codes, for that you will have to use a CPB-1.
