It says in the manual that the connecting block passes IR to control system, but doesn't say anything about 232.

The problem you are having is thinking that the commands are being held in the keypads. Thay aren't, not when you are using a processor like the RP-6. All the commands are stored on the RP-6, and the only thing being transmitted through the CB-8 are trigger codes for the processor.

Now, in stand-alone scenario, a standard IR connecting block will NOT pas 232 codes, for that you will have to use a CPB-1.
