There is no way around this if you did not create the graphics. However, if you create your own backgrounds in an image editing program, you can save the image as a dithered, adaptive 256 color gif and it will be almost discernable once on the remote. There are other, far more involved techniques to eliminate 'banding' in gradients, but I've never found that they are worth all the effort, especially on smaller screens such as the T3-V.
