Nope, Defiantly not. I get frazzled when I go over to my buddies house that has 3 remotes, I cant even imagine 7? and thats just for the boxes.

You would be very impressed what a good pro can do with a mx980 and the correct hardware. Use the money you saved by "DIYing" your system and put it into a very simple intuitive remote system.
