FWIW I've had no luck getting USB devices to work in "XP Mode" if the device does not have a Win7 device driver installed. I have not been able to install the XP version of a driver in "XP Mode" and get the device to work.
I believe the "XP Mode" is for "application compatibility", not so sure about hardware.
