The instructions in the firmware all the say the same thing, but all the products don't work the same. Follow these instructions exactly and it should work.
1. Close both ID and the firmware program. Unplug the USB.
2. Open firmware update. Hit next to get to screen that tells you to plug in.
3. Plug in USB. Now hold channel up and press reset. Hold down channel up for 30 secs, not 5. Release, then wait a few seconds and press next.
4. This should work, if it doesn't restart computer and try again.
Just a note that I had this problem too. I'm not sure if it matters but the firmware that I'm using says hold the VOLUME UP button not the channel button. Might be the same for both buttons.
It did work finally holding the volume but as SAAudio mentioned...30 seconds...not 5...that seemed to be the key to success.
