I'd go with the PS3IR-500. I'm using the PS3IR-1000 with an MX-3000 and it has worked flawless so far. I friend of mine tried the Harmony solution since he had the Harmony One and he sent it back because he found it unreliable.
I also have a Harmony 720 in house but I don't use it for the system with the PS3. I could easily try a test though to see how it works with the PS3IR adapter.
