For Pioneer consumer models ** (asterisk asterisk) is the ID. You are correct about the single versus double slashes. I don't know why URC used doubles; they don't work but singles do. There is an old thread about Pioneer displays and the MSC-400 that talks about not checking the "automatically add carriage return" box and entering it as part of the command. If you do a search over the last 3 years in the URC forum you may find it.
