The logitech one is no better. Technically it's lower featured, and uses a troublesome IR protocol to top it off.
Re the PS3 "locking up" - I've found this happens with all controllers, even the original Sony BD remote. Technically it generally no longer accepts commands from the BD remote, but continues to work via other control methods. I've found this happens most often when I send a lot of commands while it's busy doing something else.
Remember the IR4PS3 uses the original Sony bluetooth module. All it's doing is emulating button presses - it's not doing anything with the actual communications with the PS3.
