I have a client who has these two items and wants to get DTS-HD sound to his speaker system.
His receiver does not support the new audio formats associated with Blu-ray, namely dts-HD and Dolby TrueHD.
I am not sure what to advice and want to see if someone

Like me, he's probably upset that his receiver isn't really compatible with these audio formats, as evidenced by the fact that it lacks HDMI capability.
He needn't despair, though. His receiver does provide a way out. It's got 7.1 channel analog inputs. So, he needs to get a Blu-ray player that has 5.1 or 7.1 analog outputs. Daniel has told us that the BDP-BX1 doesn't have these outputs, so it's not really compatible with his receiver.
He's in the same pickle I was in when I got a Blu-ray player for Christmas. Since the player had been purchased recently at a big-box store, I was able to return it and get a model that does have the analog outputs. I got the BDP-S500.
You need to do some research, though, because just having the analog outputs doesn't guarantee that he'll be getting dts-HD Master Audio. He might, for example, have a player that decodes only dts-HD High Res Audio. Most of the discs that have dts-HD have the dts-HD Master Audio. If so, then when he plays one of these discs all he'll get is dts, just like he's getting now.
Why does he want the dts-HD? Is he convinced that he'll be able to hear a difference? I'm not sure he will! The biggest differences are going to come from the quality of the authoring process. Discs that have been well-authored are going to sound better, and that difference is going to be far more noticable than the difference between dts and dts-HD. Likewise for the difference between Dolby Digital and Dolby TrueHD.
