The RFX9400 doesn't connect through a wired connection. (There
is no network plug on it) It communicates to your wireless
router like a laptop would.

The RFX9400 does have a ethernet jack. The ethernet jack is used when configuring the Extender either from across your network or via a direct connection to your computers network card. Configuring the Extender over a wireless connection is not possible. The ethernet jack must be used. Something important to keep in mind. The ethernet jack can also be used while in Network mode. When configuring the Extender for Network mode there are two options, Ethernet and Wireless.

When configured to Ethernet you must run a network cable from the Extender to your network. The TSU9600 communicates to your wireless router. The wireless router then communicates to the Extender via a wired connection.

The Wireless option is a wireless connection from point to point obviously. The TSU9600 communciates to the wireless router. The wireless router communicates to the Extender wirelessly over your wireless network.
