Typically, I only use power variables when the 950 is the only remote that's used. You definitely don't want someone using another remote in such a situation, especially if you're using it with a projector. Then, a power variable is a safeguard to someone turning on the projector too soon. That would be tough to stop with an MX-850.

Watch/Listen just seem to be an extra key to smash.

Why? Just think of it as two MAIN buttons. It's really no different than that. Plus, the two independent macros on a single button enable you to have a single button that can either change the activity (ie: Watch a DVD) or simply go to the device (with a Go To command push-and-hold macro).

I tend to agree with Mitch about the gemstone buttons. Always liked the feel of those. ;-)
