I've also had numerous instances where the back light doesn't turn on the first time I push the button. It always turns on with the second press.
Like everyone else has state, holding the buttons down for a longer period of time has no effect on making the button work on the first press.
If the TX-1000 uses the same OS and similar firmware it would stand to reason that it to would have the same problems as the 900.
