I NEVER put or keep individual power commands on the on/off
buttons.

my on macro is the same as the activity watch "TV" or
"Cable" or "SAT" punched thru to all.

OFF is a system off punched thru to all.

This way when the remote is picked up and on in pressed
instead of "CABLE", it turns the system on and user begins
watching cable. When they want to switch, hit watch and
select DVD, FM, whaterever else is listen

For off, its a full system off regardless of where there
user is.

This approach is simple and very intuitive.

OEX, This is exactly how I do it as well and How it thing the remote was designed.
