treiss, an X-10 appliance module (or outlet) will work fine if you just need to switch the amp on/off. I use them for a CD player and a Cassette deck, each of which has remote capabilities except for the hard on/off button, and also for a subwoofer without auto detection. You will need an IR to X-10 device (IR543, IR543AH), which can also be controlled via the RF base station.
