You get a much better display window, backlinghting, the
buttons "feel" much better, overall, way, WAY better remote.

I agree. Everything about the MX-850 is wonderful. Before I bought my first one I was apprehensive about PC programming. Now that I have done it I find PC programming the 850 versus manually programming the MX-500 is like night and day.
