Might work if you have a source playing, otherwise their should be no voltage on the tape monitor outputs.

So I guess I'm wondering if this would work. How would the Sensor tell if the unit is on or off if there is nothing playing through the receiver?

I think I'd just purchase that CS12V I was mentioning early - probably more robust.
