I'm more and more sorry I bought the 9800i. My previous message "RC9800i/DVDR80, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" was only a few days after I bought the thing. Now it's 4 weeks later and I've got some better knowledge of the device.

It's mostly bad.

The question of my first message here, was also send to Philips through their support site. Promptly I received an automated reply that I would receive an answer within 4 days. I'm still waiting. Good show Philips!

Other things I found out:

The device gets confused when more WiFi Access Points (APs) are in the area. After some time the Internet-connection drops because the device gets a new IP-address (in DHCP-mode) from a "strange" AP (with not the same SSID as entered). A reconnect only happens after a hard "off-on". After some time I switched to non-DHCP mode but that didn't help either.

Currently the NTP-aquired time is or not available or totaly wrong. It doesn't matter if I use the default NTP-server or a known-to-be-good NTP-server here in The Netherlands, which I use for all my other equipment. I seems connecting NTP is hard in non-DHCP mode...?

Naturally, I still have to have my old remote at hand because the color-keys for programming my DVDR80 don't work.

With my laptop and Nokia 770 I have no problems accessing my WiFi AP from the same spot I operate my 9800i. So...

eBay?
