I'm afraid of recommending something I never used myself (or seen), but you might want to have a look at the NevoSL which has also a forum on this website. It is equipped with WiFi and you can buy a so called NevoLink which communicates over WiFi and sends ir-signals to you Direct TV satellite box(that is in the living room). Be aware that this device is considerably more expensive and can only be ordered by an authorized dealer, which also installs it ($$$). The only feature it lacks is an EPG (electronic program guide) which is a nice asset of the 9800i.
Also, if I'm in my office and I want to change the channels
of my Direct TV satellite box(that is in the living room),
will the rc 9800i change the channels with no problems
or would I have buy a RF receiver in order to do this?
You will indeed need something like an RF receiver to do this.
