Never mind. I ran the firmware updater in TSU3000__V2.0.38.zip (even though it was already showing the current version installed) and now the backlight and light sensor are working correctly together. Sorry for the false alarm. But based on my past experience with the TSU2000, I thought this was deja vu all over again.
