They do have a light sensor. It's not a very good one though. Most people find it to "work" when they place the remote in sunlight. I my self have not seen a 3000 so I don't know how it works. However I've had a ts-1000 which did have a light sensor it it, and it was very good as what light condidtion and stuff like that.
This may be fixed in a firmware update. However, if this is a phyiscal problem, then you will NEED to fill out the warrenty card, so that Philips can contact you to fix it.
