With the 3000 I found it hard to find the volume, channel, and buttons right below the screen without looking. What I did was take some straight pins with colored heads and used diagonal cutters to cut the round colored head in half. The diagonal cutters don't produce a flat cut, but actually a V cut which works great for place the pin head in the slots on the buttons. Use some gel type super glue to hold them in place. I used a toothpick with some double sided scotch tape to hold the small pin head and applied a very small drop of the glue to it. The toothpick then allows you to easily place the small pin head in place.

Now it is easy to tell by feel where the buttons are.
